I wish it would rain

Looking East from our front yard.  If you look hard, you can see the eastern horizon, and Kansas. LOL (that's an inside joke for everyone who has been to DIA, Denvers airport)

We are experiencing one of the driest Springs in years.  The Fire danger is extremely high.  We had a thunder storm move through late this afternoon.  We stood out on our covered porch and watched the rain drops.  A bolt of lightening hit just below us on the Benders property.  Moments later my son noticed smoke rising.  We were very concerned.  Fires burn uphill and it was just below us.  It took our fire department about ten minutes to respond to the fire.  The fire was extinguished within minutes.  There were eight fires started by lightening this afternoon.

My unwelcome friend, the Columbine eating young buck returned today.  I saw him and thought it was a perfect for a shot.  I aimed, shot and watched.  He flinched and moved to the other side of the bush.  I aimed again and took my second shot.  I'm glad my camera doesn't make any noise.  He wondered down the hill, away from our house.  He has already eaten all or our tasty flowers.  This shot was for Ellen.

We are off to the Oregon coast next week.  I'll try to post some pictures.

I was interrupted while writing by a phone call at 10:30PM.  My oldest son, Nathan, was calling from the hospital.  He fell and broke his arm while playing hockey.  It was a very short night.  The Dr. set his arm and we were all home safely around 2:30 AM.

 Smiles, David

David, here in mid Ohio we have had rain for weeks at a time this Spring....everything is so green and growing so well. No drought at all. Thats scary that you have so many fires from lightning strikes. In Ohio the most deer you see are dead ones on the side of the road.
Take care, lisa jo

Would you like me to ship some of our rain to you?? It rained NON stop on Saturday, just buckets of water pouring from the sky . . .

Maybe you should plant some "deer food" specifically for them far away from your garden, it could be your second garden, that way they stay away from those beautiful Columbines.

Have fun on your little trip. Take care.

Amanda :)

p.s. -> Damn Reds, lost 3 in a row to the cubs, we can beat the #1 team in the league three games in a row but we can't beat the cubs, geeeesh. :-P

We have been so dry here in Fl. as well but not anymore.  Nope nope...it's officially hurricane season and we are experiencing our first tropical storm as I write this.  Hope you get some rain too.  and I know you are kinda mad at the deer for eating your flowers....but he really is beautiful!  Hugs and GBU, Shelly

Hope Nathan makes a full recovery from his broken arm. Enjoy the Oregon coast; its sooo beautiful! Montana has been dry too this spring, but I'm telling everyone to be prepared for a record amount of snow come winter. We're leaving, so its time for their drought to be over (we always bring a drought wherever we move and then when we move, they get a record amount of rain or snow).

I learned something new today. I didn't realize fire travels uphill. I would have thought the opposite.

I'm back for another visit so here I am. Your neck of the woods look amazing. I would love to visit but Georgia keeps me occupied. It has been hot here as well here in Atlanta, Georgia it did rain some here today but not much. I haven't seen any deer here in my neck of the woods. I wish I were there to see one up close and personal but your journal is the next best thing so thanks. Keep us posted and let us know if you see anymore. Take care and I'll be back for another visit soon. Byyyyyyyyyyyyyyyye for now.

So dry in Colorado; so wet and cold in Pa.  Weather is strange but I do hope you get some moisture your way.  LOL.. the deer is pretty even if it's feeding on your lovely flowers.  Hope Nathan's break heals.  Never a dull moment, hunh?  Chris

We were promised a severe storm, but it never happened.  My yard is bone dry, but I'll bet I have the lowest water bill in town!  Sure wish it would rain soon, and hard... none of that drizzle and evaporate stuff we've been getting.  We all need a good long, hard, all day and night downpour!
Sorry to hear about your son's arm.  Glad it wasn't worse.
As for your flower eating buck... I LOVE deer, they taste good!

Hey David,

Thanks for being so faithful to visit my journal.  I love the photos.  That is one of the things I miss about living in Colorado, is seeing all the wild life and the wide open spaces.  I am so glad the fire dept. got the fire extinguished quickly.  I remember how lightening was always starting fires in CO.  I dreamed about CO again last night.  I ACHE to live there again.  Hope your son heals quickly.  Had to go to ER for x-rays the other night myself.  I am going to be okay!  Yea!

Take care of yourself and family.  Love and prayers are coming your way for all of your family's needs.

Blessings!~
Susan
