Safely Home

We arrived home safely.  It was a long three day car ride from Seaside, Oregon to Sunshine, Colorado.  I could probably write a book about my observations but that would violate my "60 second" rule.  I have driven that road so many times I don't even need a map anymore.  Maybe, some day, I'll write another book, one about my travels through the American West.

Some thoughts....Why do the Seagulls land and face the setting sun as it sinks into the western horizon?  This was the first time in my memory that the wind wasn't blowing in Wamsutter, Wyoming (the garden spot of the state...J/K).  I stopped to take a picture but decided not to.  Who wants a picture of nothing?  It seemed strange driving up our driveway.  In Oregon, plants grow to their maximum potential.  The trees are 100'-200' tall.  Here at home, they are only about 50' tall.  Why would a sane man take his wife, her sister and two teenagers on a 14 day car ride? Did you notice there weren't any people in the ocean?  It's only 66 degrees!  Burrrrrr!!!!  Any way, it was a fun trip.

Milo was soooo happy to see me.  He was bouncing all over the driveway.  His tail was wagging so hard and fast, it almost knocked me over.  We took our morning walk today and raised the American flag.  Today we wished America a "Happy Birthday".

Smiles,

David

ROFl at myself...I got so flustered with those darned clouds, I put my comment in the wrong entry.  I was in Ocean City, Md. in 1976; not far from where you were...Chris

Welcome Back Dave!! So are you going to answer those questions? Why would a sane man take his wife, his sister, and two daughters on a 14 day car ride? Was it a big and comfortable car? a van? Did the teens enjoy it as much as you did? You all must get along very well to take such a trip... there are very few people I would want to take a 14 day car ride with. But definitely Oregon and Washington are in our plans one of these very soon years. Hey, dave, come by today to my blog... I found something I think you would like to know about. It's a nature thing. With an awesome link too graphic for some folks, though. Bea

so glad you arrived home safe and sound. I would imagine Milo was one happy pup to see "his" person home. Sounds like an awesome time you had. Hey, long car rides; that's where memories are made. I still talk about our long car rides we've done over the years.

Hi David,

I'm glad you arrived home safely. I would have liked being on the trip with you. I have NEVER been to Oregon or Colorado I bet its beautiful there. I would love to read a book you write about your travels through the American West. I love to read I would run out to purchase a book you've written. If you do write that book let me know. I would run to the nearest Barnes & Noble and pick it up. My Hobo would have a great time with your Milo I'm sure they would love to meet and play in the yard. Hobo is quite an active puppy. Take care David.

Hi David,

I'm just now getting caught up on my journal reading.... and I LOVED the pics of Oregon that you posted.  I've been to Cannon Beach, and have a framed pic of Haystack Rock that we took there.  A good friend of my cousin's made the beautiful frame for us.  And the forest on the way to Cannon Beach from Portland...  I loved seeing some familiar things in your slideshow, but ALL the pics were very beautiful!!  Thanks for sharing.

David -- thanks for the comment! I'll be sure and check in regularly. I love travel writing of all sorts, so it was good to see your travelogue from the Oregon coast.

Did you happen to see the 24 Hour Church of Elvis in Portland?

I'll be in touch,

Journals Editor Jeff
